The HCM system is the premium, ultra-secure option. Instead of clamping directly onto the tube of the handlebar, the handguards attach to heavy-duty replacement top clamps for your handlebar risers.
The Advantage: By mounting to the clamps, you clear up valuable "real estate" on your handlebars for GPS units, switches, or phone mounts. It also provides a much more rigid connection, making it nearly impossible for the guards to rotate upward or downward during a hard crash.
Best For: Riders who want maximum stability and a clean, uncluttered cockpit.
The CRM system uses a more traditional (but highly evolved) approach. These guards use a long arm that reaches past the "bend" of the bars and clamps directly onto the 1-1/8" center section of the handlebar.
The Advantage: It offers excellent clearance for cables and brake lines, which can often be a headache with standard wrap-around guards. Because it clamps to the bar itself, it is generally more "universal" if you decide to swap your bars to a different height or pull-back later on.
Best For: Riders looking for a straightforward, high-clearance installation that doesn't require replacing the bike's original handlebar clamps.
